Event Preview: Gareth Emery “Live” at Governor’s Island 8/4!

Event Preview: Gareth Emery Live at Governors Island 8/4! newevents flyer

Governors Island. A place I, and I’m sure many other dance music lovers in New York City, could certainly refer to as a second home this summer. For many memorable past Saturday’s, Made Event has transformed the quiet island off of Manhattan into nothing short of an electronic dance music paradise. Starting off the summer with a high-energy show by Benny Benassi & Friends, Made Event has since continued to provide us with a killer lineup of parties including Laidback Luke’s Super YOU & Me, Dash Berlin’s Music is Life World Tour, and most recently Robbie Rivera’s Juicy New York. Now if you’re anything like me, this soon-to-be two weekends in a row break from a crazy day out on Governor’s has left you craving more. Lucky for us, Made Event has just the cure we need. On Saturday August 4th, Gareth Emery will be making his way to the island and with a supporting lineup featuring Ben Gold, Blake Jarrell, Jerome Isma-ae and Zack Roth, this is sure to be a party you don’t want to miss. It’s important to note this is no ordinary Gareth Emery show, but will be the third installment of his “Live” show, which will include live audio and video production; you’ll be nothing short of amazed.

From teaching himself how to play piano at the age of 4 to playing in an indie band at 15, music certainly always played a role in Gareth Emery’s life. Experimenting with different music styles at such a young age ultimately provided Emery with a way to learn how to best convey his emotions through his music. It wasn’t until a chance trip to Ibiza in 1998 that began making the conversion into the electronic scene and produced his first track at the age of 22. Since then, Emery’s tracks have been on the top of Beatport’s Trance sales chart, although he refuses to just be labeled as a trance producer. Instead he says he is simply “a music guy” and that this realization has allowed him more creative freedom than when he felt he had to produce for a certain “scene”. Perhaps it’s the way he always produces straight from what he’s feeling that give’s Emery’s tracks such an amazing sound. While the dance music scene continued to grow around the world this past year, he did the same. His latest single ‘Concrete Angel’ was premiered on Judge Jules’ BBC Radio 1 show and its video got over a million YouTube hits in its first three weeks online. With incredible beats and overlying vocals, this track truly speaks for itself. You may also know Emery from his other chart-topping tracks Sanctuary’ and ‘The Saga’. Perfectly combining the sounds of techno, house, trance, and electro, he is sure to give one hell of a show at Governor’s island.

Another addition to the party will be Ben Gold. At only 25 years old, Gold has already made a name for himself as one of the brightest young stars in the trance scene. With tracks featured on top compilations such as Trance Nation Deeper, Ministry Of Sound’s Trance Nation Harder, and Europe’s biggest dance compilation, Dream Dance, it seems his name (and music) are popping up everywhere trance can be found. Although he spent most of his time in the past, writing and producing tracks for other major artists, he has since launched his new guise “Be:Gold”. Under this guise he has produced tracks such as ‘Starstruck’ and ‘Sunstroke’ which became festival favorites of Tiesto, Gareth Emery, and Armin van Buuren. His talents have certainly gotten him noticed with Paul Oakenfield declaring him, “a talented young producer” and “definitely one to watch out for in the future”. With support from some of the biggest names in trance there’s seems to be no limit on how far Ben Gold can go. I can’t wait to see what he has in store for New York!

Blake Jarrell will also be coming along for the ride. It’s hard to believe that just a few years ago Blake was fleeing from the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. Relocating and finding his way into the Chicago electronic music scene, it wasn’t long before his musical productions caught the eye (or ear I should say) of Armin van Buuren and landed him a spot on Armada’s Music roster. With support from  Markus Schulz, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong, Matthew Dekay, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold and of course Armin van Buuren, this growing trance artist is sure to be one to keep an eye on.

Also adding to the party will be Munich native DJ/producer Jerome Isma-ae. Over his 15 year career he has explored many different sides of music including house, disco, soul, and funk. Combining a little of each of these his work nowadays had been labeled as progressive house. With top-charted remixes as well as his own original tracks, his music is no stranger to packed club dance-floors. Let’s see what he can do on an island.

Last but not least will be New York native, Zack Roth. With a music style described as progressive, dark, and danceable, his sets are known to showcase his passion for all varieties of dance music. First emerging onto the NYC DJ scene in 2004, Roth has since gained residency at some of the city’s most reputable clubs. Going on to produce and perform alongside some of the world’s biggest DJs, including Fedde Le Grand and Robbie Rivera, he is sure to be a fantastic addition to the Saturday evening festivities.

This event is 18+ and tickets are still available for purchase. Get them before they’re all gone and kick off the last month of Summer with a bang!

Oh and did I mention as a part of the Garuda Live Project, this show will be broadcasted live to the entire world? Yeah, that’s happening. Don’t miss out!
