OK, it’s confession time: I’m mild to moderately obsessed with Joris Voorn. If there is a gold standard for tech house, then Voorn has to be in the conversation. His original productions are consistently incredible, from his older hits to the two instant classics he released earlier this year, Goodbye Fly and Spank the Maid. His remix work is also always top notch, and if you’re just learning about the man now, be sure to check out DJ Le Roi featuring Roland Clark‘s I Get Deep (Joris Voorn This Is Not a Remix). However, the Dutch producer/DJ shines brightest in his live sets which are nothing short of an epic journey every time.
Let’s rewind to Ultra 2012 in Miami. I was (jealously) watching the live broadcast on YouTube when I was pleasantly surprised by 30 minutes of Voorn, live and in the mix. Near the end of the set, Joris played a goosebump-inducing track I’d never heard before, and I looked everywhere for it. Finally, my patience was rewarded last week when Joris released his edit of Ronan Portela‘s remix of Someone Else‘s Barbay.
